Nurse Aide Training and Home Health Aide
Training
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this curriculum is to
prepare a student for employment as a Nurse Aide or Home Health Aide.
Nurse Aides provide assistance in the care of sick and injured patients
under the supervision of nursing and/or medical staff. Home Health Aides
perform tasks under the supervision and direction of Registered Nurses
in the home health environment.
OVERVIEW:
Students completing this curriculum
will be able to:
• Obtain employment as a Nursing Aide or Home Health Aide.
• Display behavior that supports and promotes clients' rights.
• Perform basic nursing/personal care skills.
• Assist clients in attaining and maintaining independence.
• Interact effectively with clients experiencing dementia.
• Interact on a one-to-one basis with clients,
with sensitivity to their emotional, social, and mental health.
The curriculum consists of 120 hours of instruction
including lecture, laboratory work, and on-the-job clinical training.
Students will receive six semester college credits
in the course TNSG 105 Nurse Assistant. Successful
completion of this class prepares the student to take the State of Michigan
Competency Examination.
Students passing the exam will be placed on the
State of Michigan Nursing Aide Registry, which is renewed semi-annually.
Upon placement on the Registry, the student is
eligible to work as a nurse aide in a hospital or long term care facility
or to work as a home health aide.
This curriculum is approved by the Michigan Department of Consumer and
Industry Services.
