DENTAL HYGIENE
The Dental Hygiene Program is designed for persons who wish to prepare themselves as dental hygienists.

The hygienist works under the direction or supervision of a licensed dentist, and must be licensed by the state in which he or she practices.

Satisfactory completion of the dental hygiene curriculum is necessary in order to be eligible for state licensure.

The Dental Hygiene Program is a course of study in cooperation with Ferris State University leading to an Associate in Applied Science Degree.

The student should apply for the Dental Hygiene program at Ferris State University as soon as possible and then begin the pre-requisite courses at West Shore Community College.

Specific course descriptions are in the West Shore Community College catalog. Required courses available at West Shore Community College are:

CENG 111 English Composition I, 3 credits
CENG 112 English Composition II, 3 credits
CSPE 110 Interpersonal Communications, 3 credits
MANP 230 Anatomy & Physiology I, 4 credits
MANP 231 Anatomy & Physiology II, 4 credits

MBIO 232 Elementary Microbiology, 4 credits
MCHM 122 General Chemistry, 4 credits
SPSY 161 General Psychology, 3 credits
SSOC 171 Introduction to Sociology, 3 credits
THCT 104 Medical Terminology, 2 credits

Cultural Enrichment course from HART, HMUS, CLFP, CSPN, CTHE, or CFRN.

(MMTH 120 Introductory Algebra proficiency must be demonstrated prior to the beginning of the Professional Sequence of Dental Hygiene Courses.

The student must have a GPA of 2.5 with no course grade less than a "C" (2.0) to meet entrance requirements in the Dental Hygiene program.

The student may only have one unsuccessful attempt at the pre-requisite courses. Clinical work will be scheduled through the Dental Clinical Lab on the Ferris State University campus.
