Criminal Justice Division
Police Certification Program
The Criminal Justice curricula are designed to give specialized knowledge of law enforcement combined with a broad general education background.

The programs offer theoretical, practical, and technical instruction designed to meet the ever-increasing demand for the upgrading of personnel by law enforcement agencies.

A graduate of this program would be prepared to seek employment as a police officer as well as in non-officer (civilian) careers. These careers include correctional officer, security guard, and industrial security officer.

***May be waived if the student shows competence.
Upon completion of this degree, certification to become a police officer within the State of Michigan will be provided by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.

A student must be at least 18 years old upon entry, must be fingerprinted, undergo a physical exam, physical fitness test, board interview and a reading/writing exam. A student must earn at least a grade of "C-" (1.7 grade points) in each of the 200-level TLCJ courses in order to be police certifiable.

Students are responsible for all prerequisites and/or co-requisites. See course descriptions.

This program is intended to prepare students for employment, and therefore has not been designed to transfer to senior institutions. Some of the courses, however, may be transferable. For clarification, see a WSCC advisor
